Srinagar, Mar 12 (KNO): Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader, Abdul Qayoom Wani on Thursday announced he is going to bid adieu to politics forever. According to wire service—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Wani said that he has quit the politics forever. Want was earlier a trade union leader in Jammu and Kashmir and was known for raising the voices of employees working in different departments. Wani told KNO that "I quit politics forever and will work only as civil society member and former trade union leader." He further said that he has taken such a decision as mark of protest against the abrogation of Jammu and Kashmir's special status (Article 370) and bifurcation of erstwhile State into two Union Territories by the central government on August 5 last year. Wani was among the mainstream leaders who was put under detention by the authorities in wake of the trashing of Article 370. Wani, who contested the parliamentary elections on PDP ticket last year from North Kashmir after resigning from his government job as well as from the post of trade union leader, was kept at central jail for over six months and was released nearly a month ago—(KNO)
